Cutting funding for public broacasting
Blog post description.
So it looks like the government has made the decision to eliminate public funding for NPR and PBS. This move makes no sense. This move is another attempt by the administration to hurt people.
They don’t want people to be educated. They don't want people to know what is going on. And they don’t want to spend money on things that bring communities together.
NPR and PBS are barely any part of the budget. This is another attempt to say they are “cutting costs” when they are just trying to silence people.
According ot The Hill, “The shuttering of local stations could compound the dramatic shrinking of local media over the past two decades, according to a report from Muck Rack and Rebuild Local News.Federal funding directly accounts for about 1 percent of the budget of NPR’s national headquarters. The broadcaster also has about 250 member stations, also funded by the CPB, that pay NPR fees to air their programs.”
We need local news. People deserve to be informed. They deserve to be able to hear what is going on in their neighborhoods and their cities. They deserve programing that can educate them, their kids.
Without local news, people don’t hear about what is happening in their communities, they don’t know about weather or school issues or policy issues within their town.
Cutting funding to these broadcasters is a cruel attempt to hurt local agencies and reduce news consumption to those who need it most.
