Two Baltimore's
A divided Baltimore is one that is not set up for a powerful and bright future

There are two Baltimore's. There have been two Baltimores for a long white. All know about her White L and the Black butterfly. But let's go deeper. Let’s make it clear.
One Baltimore gets more funding, has more investments, has schools that are better equipped, has more playgrounds, has more tree canopies, has more HOAs, has more businesses, has more tourist dollars, has more investment by corporations in the city.
One Baltimore has more good desserts, less access to clean water, streets with more potholes, more homes with lead paint, more steps falling apart, less green space, less parks, less playgrounds, less shops, less pharmacies, and less investment.
One Baltimore has development sprouting up everywhere. One Baltimore has landlords who do nothing to ensure a building is up to code. One Baltimore has expensive high rises. One has homes that are not cared for by the city and by landlords. One has schools with no AC. One has trendy coffee shops with $8 lattes.
A divided Baltimore is a Baltimore that is not ready for the future. That is not primed for change. A divided Baltimore can’t be a future we look forward to. It has changed. Something has to be done
Baltimore city is a city that could have 1-2 million people. But because of redlining, disinterments, racist policies, bad decisions by former mayors, lack of investment by Annapolis, past governors like Larry Hogan who didn't care about - the city has only 500-600,000 people.
All of this has led to two Baltimores. One Baltimore gets all the funding and one gets none of it. One is considered prime real estate by developers and some is overloaded.
A bright future for this city means every school gets cared for, every business gets supported, every entrepreneur gets a loan to start a dream, every student gets a sighting chance, every mother gets support, every senior gets cared for, every street is clean, every home is livable.
I believe in Baltimore that brings up everyone. That makes every street matter. That ensures safe schools for all. That ensures safe and secure housing.
We are at a crossroads in Baltimore. We cannot stand being two Baltimores anymore. This division does nothing. It doesn't set this city for the future.
One Baltimore that looks out for everyone. One Baltimore that ensures every child has a chance. One Baltimore that supports every business. One Baltimore that has green spaces everywhere, affordable housing everywhere, jobs everywhere.
It’s time we are honest about the Baltimore we have now and the Baltimore we could be. And I'm ready to make that happen.
